The Michelle Lapautre Agency has been working for more than fifty years for the dissemination of Anglo-Saxon culture in French-speaking countries. She mainly represents publishers and agents from the English-speaking world for French-language rights.
Founded in 1961 in New York by Georges Borchardt, in association with Paris-based Michelle Lapautre , the agency concluded this first year four contracts. Five years later, it had a hundred. In 1968, the Michelle Lapautre Agency became fully independent. Michelle continued to develop it into one of the most important French literary agencies. Her daughter Catherine Lapautre joined the agency in 1994 and has managed it since Michelle's retirement.
