The history of The Creative Company begins in 1932, alongside the Minnesota River. Founded in Mankato, Minnesota, by a visionary named George Peterson, the company was named The Creative Educational Society, and we started humbly enough. As a fledgling company, we produced maps and diagrams for teachers and students, offered chalk game sets called Pla-Boards, and issued a set of rubber stamps called the Creative Pictured Printer. From there, we branched into textbooks and were soon publishing on topics that ranged from science to sports. In the 1960s, George Peterson Jr. joined his father, and the newly named Creative Education, Inc., began a transformation that made it a leading children’s publisher. We broadened our offerings and reputation, creating magnificently illustrated school and library books and publishing them in dozens of languages.
