Snuggly Books

Publishing company profile: Snuggly Books, California, United States

Founded in 2013, Snuggly Books publishes the best of experimental and Decadent fiction from the past, present, and perhaps even future. Built on a foundation of previously-untranslated classics of French literature from J.-K. Huysmans, Jean Lorrain, Léon Bloy, Marcel Schwob, Jane de la Vaudère, the Goncourts and others, Snuggly has made use of prolific and versatile translators like Brian Stableford and Jessica Sequeira. In recent years, by expanding its range and releasing translations from Decadent, Symbolist, and Modernist writers in Spanish, German, Italian and other languages, as well as making available affordable classics of the Gothic by writers like Christian Heinrich Spiess, Arthur Machen, Count Stenbock and Montague Summers, the press has exposed both new and seasoned readers to underread and underknown literary currents. With these works, Snuggly aims to increase Anglosphere awareness of previously-neglected stylistic directions and underexposed authors who, however influential in their own time, have not received the attention they deserve.

As well as its extensive range of translations, Snuggly functions as the hub publisher of the emerging Neo-Decadent movement, billed as the first comprehensive and coherent artistic movement of the 21st century. With works from Brendan Connell, Quentin S. Crisp, Justin Isis, Damian Murphy, Kristine Ong-Muslim and others, Snuggly has spearheaded a new literary impulse uniquely responsive to the current worldwide artistic climate and its ‘Neo-Passéist’ limitations.

The modern writers published by Snuggly, while influenced by the works of the past, are not content to remain safely in stagnant genre territory, and instead address current concerns with a focus on revolutionary stylistic and aesthetic approaches. The movement has expanded to fashion and the visual arts, and is set to become increasingly influential. The works of these writers, and the anthologies of them that Snuggly has released, serve as the best introduction to Neo-Decadence.

Keeping pace with the times, Snuggly releases stylish and affordable hardcovers, paperbacks, and eBooks. The goal is to make books available in all formats, expanding the readership.

With a brisk release schedule and its inclusion of bundle packages of multiple upcoming works, Snuggly is set to expand the breadth and depth of its material, bringing Decadence for all into the 21st century.
